Why was Fall Out Boy so secretive about their reunion ? According to bassist Pete Wentz, they “didn’t think people would care” about the band returning after a four-year hiatus.
In other news, Wentz is confusing enthusiasm over a Fall Out Boy reunion with that regarding the solo projects of the band’s respective members.
NME reports that Fall Out Boy announced their reunion earlier this month, which includes their plan to release a new album titled Save Rock And Roll and go on tour in the US. But Wentz says he didn’t even expect anyone to show up to the band’s first reunion show in Chicago, Illinois.
“When we got on stage in Chicago, it was crazy,” Wentz told MTV News . “It was a rush, because we honestly didn’t think people would care, and that’s the truth. But it felt like we didn’t miss a beat.”
Wentz also said that the band is having a blast with the reunion so far, joking: “We’re having the reunion sex, so like it’s so awesome that we don’t have to bring in the whips yet.”
The bassist also admitted that he wasn’t sure how he should act onstage since he’s older now, and said that part of the reunion was figuring out how to turn Fall Out Boy into “Fall Out Men.”
Wentz also said that Fall Out Boy is also thinking about recording new songs beyond their comeback album.
“We have other cool ideas”, he said. “But we’re definitely not in that part of being in a band where you’re like ‘Oh, well, this dude likes this song, so I guess we’ll put it on the album, and we’ll probably never play it and nobody will care about it’.”
