Will the Michael Douglas divorce move forward? Catherine Zeta-Jones and the 68-year-old Falling Down star announced that they were separating after 13 years of marriage just a few days ago.
Yet Douglas was photographed still wearing his wedding ring when he appeared Friday night at the 2013 Deauville American Film Festival. Needless to say, he seemed to be sending something of a mixed message about what’s going on with his marriage.
A rep for Zeta-Jones came forward on Wednesday with a statement to E! Online that, “ Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
It has been a difficult year for the couple. Michael Douglas has battled back from cancer, while Catherine Zeta-Jones had to be hospitalized for inpatient treatment of her bipolar disorder .
As if that wasn’t stressful enough, Douglas’ son has been jailed on drug charges for some time.
However, it’s worth noting that a separation doesn’t always guarantee a divorce. Michael Douglas apparently hasn’t given up hope, or he wouldn’t still be wearing his wedding ring.
According to a new E! Online report, the couple may have already been separated for as much as 18 months when the rep made the announcement last week. Yet the entertainment source still ran a photo of Douglas wearing his wedding ring as he spoke at the northern France film festival on Friday.
There are also multiple photos from Just Jared from Cate Blanchett and Michael Douglas’ appearance at the Deauville Opening Ceremony. They reported that Douglas appeared there to promote his film Behind the Candelabra with director Stephen Soderbergh.
And if you check out his left hand in their photos, yup, he’s still wearing the wedding ring.
With their issues, the odds that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas will divorce may seem high. But don’t count the couple out just yet. Douglas apparently hasn’t given up.
