David Morrissey has landed his first post- Walking Dead role.

Morrissey, whose character The Governor was killed in the midseason finale of AMC’s zombie drama, will star in the BBC One miniseries The Driver .

The three-part drama is written by Danny Brocklehurst ( Clocking Off, Exile ) and co-created by Brocklehurst and Jim Poyser. The miniseries tells the story of taxi driver Vince McKee, an ordinary man who, because of a family mystery and frustration with his job and life, decides to become a driver for a criminal gang .

“I have always wanted to work with Dave Morrissey, one of the UK’s finest actors, and I’m delighted to be finally getting the chance. The entire cast is amazing and it is a privilege to have them on board,” Brocklehurst said.

Morrissey, who is an executive producer on the miniseries, said he was excited to be starring in the drama.

“It is the first production with my own production company, Highfield Pictures alongside RED Production Company up in Manchester,” he said. “Written by Danny Brocklehurst, it is the story of a mini cab driver who tries to turn his life around with the help of an old friend. Needless to say, things don’t go exactly according to plan!”

Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, added, “The Driver is a gripping tale of an ordinary life turned upside down and it’s wonderful to announce David Morrissey returning to BBC One after his fine performance in this week’s critically acclaimed hit The 7.39. ”

Filming for The Driver starts in and around Manchester this week and will transmit on BBC One later this year. Claudie Blakeley plays Vince’s wife, Ros, and Sacha Parkinson plays their daughter, Katie. The series also stars Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Shaun Dingwall, and Lee Ross.

David Morrissey was also cast in AMC’s Line of Sight last August. The 49-year-old stars as Lewis Brent, a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator who survives a mysterious crash and goes on a mission to discover the cause of the accident.
