In a recent MMA bout between Shane Campbell and Derek Boyle, Campbell delivered a Street Fighter -style “hadouken” against his opponent right before he completely thrashed him for the win.

The Canadian welterweight specializes in Muay Thai kickboxing. He fights out of Iron Tiger Muay Thai Gym in Stoney Creek, Ontario.

While no fire manifested itself from his hands like Ryu and Ken’s hadouken in the Street Fighter video game, the tactic appeared to work as he went on to win the fight.

The former W.K.A. Muay Thai and current Unified MMA World Champion fought what seemed to be a normal fight against Boyle until the third round in which he dropped to his knee after a massive body kick and suddenly performed what appeared to be a hadouken. Following the Street Fighter movie, he landed a series of blows which left Derek “The Gargoyle” Boyle on the ground.

Once Boyle was down, he wasn’t getting back up as Shaolin unleashed a torrent of haymaker-esque punches which sealed the deal, as the referee stepped in shortly after to break up the fight with more than four minutes remaining in the round.

The Street Fighter game was at its height of popularity in the late 1980s and early ’90s.

The term hadouken literally translates into “surge fist” or “ wave motion first .” The action is a special move performed by characters in the classic arcade game Street Fighter . The move is performed with a quarter-circle forward followed by a press of the punch button.

In other mixed martial arts news here on Inquisitr , Joe Rogan said that the UFC and MMA, in general, are plagued with what he called a “ steroid epidemic ” after Anderson Silva and Hector Lombard tested positive for anabolic steroids. In particular, the two tested positive for desoxymethyltestosterone.

Shane has been considered the best middleweight kickboxer in North America for the past few years. The 28-year-old trains under Romanian-Canadian Muay Thai Guru Kru Alin H?lm?gean and has been active in the scene since 2003. He competes in both lightweight as well as welterweight divisions, weighs 158.7 pounds and measures five-foot-11 , according to his page on Wikipedia.

He started kickboxing at the age of 16 and had his first professional fight at the age of 18. Since 2008, he’s become increasingly active in the MMA scene and has recently signed up with Aggression MMA after experiencing some early success in the sport.
